Article in the Canadian Jewish News: Fondation SSM pour une bonne cause

The Sénégal Santé Mobile Foundation is a non-profit association which aims to ensure the sustainability of primary health care among disadvantaged populations in Senegal.

She actively participates, on the ground, in the fight against infant mortality. Indeed, through its “Maternity Project”, the Foundation helps make the provision of prenatal and postnatal care accessible in the Senegalese villages that need it most by providing them with qualified health professionals as well as services. basic health essential to their well-being.

This commitment finds its justification in the alarming statistics: the infant mortality rate (0 – 1 year) is estimated at approximately 151 per 100,000 live births in Senegal compared to, for example, 5 per 100,000 live births in Canada. This provides information on the extent of the needs.

Beyond these statistics is the plight of many women as well as the future of many children who desperately need maternal and child health services.

The Sénégal Santé Mobile Foundation already has several concrete achievements to its credit thanks to the generosity of Canadians, Senegalese living in Canada and friends of Senegal. It thus proceeded with the delivery of equipment (hospitalization, medical-surgical equipment, etc.), medicines and first aid products for the benefit, for example, of the Gorom 1 health post which attracts around ten 10 villages.

Among its projects planned for 2012, the Foundation intends to increase its support by bringing its prenatal services to the villages through nurse facilitators who will work with women to raise awareness about hygiene and nutrition. This professional staff will also screen for certain diseases such as anemia, diabetes and hypertension. This pilot project will serve as a model that could be reproduced across Senegal.

The Foundation is organizing a fundraising evening for the birth center, scheduled for Saturday October 29, 2011 at the Ruby Foo’s Hotel, 7655 boul Décarie (Metro Namur). The evening includes a multicultural dinner (salad, beef, rice, vegetables, dessert and coffee), with musical entertainment and a storytelling presentation in French, English, Wolof and Yiddish.
This multicultural dinner shows in these times of violence and lack of hope in the world and also in Senegal that people of different cultures and roots can work together to help the populations served.
